Heli Pub Tour

A fantastic way to see and taste what the Atherton Tablelands has to offer!

Depart Cairns and head south past Walshs Pyramid, a distinct peak with a pyramidal appearance and on to the first stop, The Mountain View Hotel – a classic old Queenslander pub located on the Gillies highway at the start of the range.

Ascending for the next stop, you cross over lush rainforest and the Crater Lakes National Park. The park contains two volcanically-formed lakes around 17,000 years old. Lake Barrine and Lake Eacham, each filled purely by crystal clear rainwater.

As you climb to the top of the Tablelands you soon arrive at pub number two the historical Peeramon Hotel – Queensland’s highest in terms of elevation and the oldest on the Tablelands.

Our third stop takes you over Lake Tinaroo, a man made dam completed in 1958 and used for irrigation, water supply, hydroelectricity, and recreation. After soaring over the lake, approximately 75% the size of Sydney Harbour, you land at Mt. Uncle Distillery. North Queensland’s first and only distillery, producing award winning premium spirits and liqueurs. The Bridges Bar & Restaurant next door offers a fantastic spot for lunch and a frosty beverage.

Airborne again, your soon passing over a major township formed on the merging point of the Barron River, Granite and Emerald Creeks. Mareeba, (Aboriginal meaning “meeting of the waters”) is the hub of the Tablelands and home to around 10,000+ people. You will soon touch down at the last pub, The Billabong in Kuranda. Nestled amongst pristine tropical rainforest, its easy to relax on the huge timber deck overlooking the water with a unique view of the eucalypt woodlands. The tour winds up with a return flight to Cairns, offering spectacular views of the Barron gorge and falls.

Tour time about 5 hours  (10.00am – 3.00pm), flight time approximately 60 minutes.
